Acer laptop slow with Game Maker?

Does anyone know why my Acer notebook is slow with Game Maker 8.1? It's slow when I'm creating a game, and it's brand new. My old desktop in Rockford, can make games 20x faster than this thing. BUT, check this out, MapleStory (a HUGE online rpg), runs fine on the Acer, but runs like CRAP on the Desktop I have in Rockford! Any ideas why this might be?
